Mr. Wissanu Krue-ngam, the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand and Mr. Phinij Jarusombat, the former Deputy Prime Minister visited the Research Center of Innovative Rubber at TGGS, KMUTNB on February 6th, 2016 where they were welcomed by Prof.Dr. Teeravuti Boonyasopon, President of KMUTNB and Asst Prof.Dr. Rapeephun Dangtungee, lecturer and researcher at the Materials and Production Engineering Program and the Assistant to the Dean for Industrial Collaborations at TGGS.
The Deputy Prime Minister was presented with the research project "Rubber Soil Cement Road" initiated and run by Asst.Prof.Dr. Rapeephun Dangtungee. In his research, one kilometer of rubber soil cement road requires 10,000 kilograms of rubber latex and 1-2 days construction time. The cost per square meter is calculated at 240-280 THB (6.7-7.9 USD) which is significantly cheaper than concrete road (800-850 THB or 22.5-23.9 USD per square meter).
The advantages of rubber soil cement road is not only cost saving for the government to build and expand road network in Thailand. It may also save the national problem of rubber price drop due to the surplus amount of rubber in the market.
The Research Center of Innovative Rubber at TGGS, KMUTNB is ready to share the knowledge to government agencies in order to collaborate and bring out this innovative project to the good use.
